On November 17, 1977, I opened my first retail waterbed mattress store, Royal Waterbeds, in Columbia, Missouri. The 600 sq. ft. space, a former dry cleaner, was only big enough to display six beds. As the only employee, I sold beds all day and then, after closing the store at 7pm, delivered and installed the beds until midnight, six days a week.

What started as one retail location in Columbia, Missouri, has grown to what exists today as the Boyd Group, with four separate but related companies: The Bedroom Store, Boyd Specialty Sleep, Accent Furniture and Blue Magic. The Bedroom Store is the retail arm of the company with 6 locations in the St. Louis, MO metro area. Boyd Specialty Sleep manufactures Specialty Sleep mattresses, including Boyd Flotation brand waterbeds and softside beds.

Boyd currently sells over 400,000 mattresses worldwide each year, making us one of the largest manufacturers in the industry. We are the industry leader in the development and manufacture of both hardside and softside waterbed mattresses. Our impressive list of over 20 US patents, with more pending, all pertaining to the continued quality, innovation and design of unique specialty sleep products, is solid proof of this company's commitment to having the most advanced product on the market.
